Recently students from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) attended our Omagh site in Northern Ireland. The group participated in an in-depth tour of our primary and further processing operations, gaining valuable insights into production processes and industry practices.
In an educational initiative to bridge industry and learning, students were given a tour of one of the UK’s largest beef processing facilities. The visit provided students with a practical undertsanding of the red meat processing industry, including ‘farm to fork’ and the importance of quality control within the plant. Accompanied by their teachers, the students were welcomed by the Foyle Food Group Agricultural Team, who led a comprehensive tour of the facility. The tour included the lairage system, slaughter and boning hall, and packing unit.
The group developed an awareness of the challenges and responsibility involved with ensuring food quality and safety. The visit also highlighted technology used to drive efficiency within the supply chain including VIA (Visual Imaging Analysis) used for carcase grading to ensure consistency and accuracy.
The Foyle team also discussed career opportunities within the progressive meat sector, encouraging students to consider pathways in technical, commercial, agricultural and manufacturing areas.
At Foyle, we are committed to supporting students, providing in-depth tours, work experience and graduate opportunities across various sectors of the business – Visit our careers page.
